What is the process of receiving a Knoxville dental crown?

Dental Crown Placement from Dr. Foncea

When teeth need to be covered or protected, dentists such as Dr. Foncea of Knoxville often suggest that patients have dental crowns placed. A crown, also referred to as a cap, is a common restoration used at Sequoyah Dental Arts. Our practice utilizes these to protect teeth, improve smiles, and restore dental implants. They are versatile and easy to place.

Patients have their crowns placed within two dental visits. During the first visit, the patient sits in the dental chair while Dr. Foncea prepares the tooth. This may require that part of the tooth enamel be reduced, as this makes for a great fit. Once this has been completed, impressions are taken of the tooth. The impressions are prepared with pertinent information and sent to an outside laboratory where the dental crown is created. In the meantime, patients receive a temporary crown that is bonded over the tooth. When the crown arrives from the laboratory, the patient comes back into the office for the final placement.

Dr. Foncea uses crowns for:

  • Protection of a broken or chipped tooth
  • Protection of a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy
  • Restoration of a dental implant
  • Covering teeth that are permanently stained or discolored

When a patient needs a dental crown, he, and his staff, discuss with the patient the advantages of dental crowns and explain how they improve the smile in appearance and functionality. Patients learn about the advantages that they can provide and can seek alternatives if necessary. Dr. Foncea ensures that patients fully understand dental treatments and procedures so there are no surprises or unexpected occurrences along the way. By fully educating his patients, they have a say in their dental care and will build a positive, trusting relationship with the team at Sequoyah Dental Arts. Our state-of-the-art facility offers services for cosmetic and general dentistry, and we are focused on offering patients treatments that greatly benefit their smiles.
