Restore the Beauty of your Smile with Porcelain Veneers

When talking about beauty, features such as symmetry and uniformity matter. When you look at a man’s or woman’s face, symmetrical faces are seen as more attractive than those that are not. This same concept applies to your smile. When you have teeth that differ in characteristics, including shape, size, length, and color, this can detract from a smile that could be considered attractive. Drs. Pablo Foncea, Mariko McCall, Kathryn Beil, and the team at Sequoyah Dental Arts in Knoxville, Tennessee, understand this and offer beautiful porcelain veneers to those seeking a more uniform or whitened smile. With dental veneers, our dentists can transform and customize your smile to fit your idea of what a proportional, beautiful, and natural-looking smile should look like.

Porcelain Veneers Before After

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

A dental veneer is a thin but strong piece of translucent porcelain applied to the front of the tooth. Veneers are highly customizable and are crafted to mimic the appearance of your natural tooth enamel. Veneers are created to fit over the tooth’s front surface to conceal any number of imperfections that might be present. When you visit us, you can ask to have just a single veneer placed on one tooth or for a set of veneers to cover as many teeth as necessary for your complete smile makeover.

Receiving Your Veneers

You will visit our practice for a consultation, during which you will tell us what you hope to achieve with veneers. This appointment will help your dentist to understand your needs so that your customer veneer(s) are made precisely to your specifications. Once your veneers have been crafted, your tooth or teeth need to be prepared. This process involves the removal of a very thin layer of your tooth’s enamel. This allows the veneer to be placed snugly for a natural fit. The veneers will be examined one final time to ensure they are the correct size, shape, and fit before they are cemented. For most, this entire process will take place over the course of two appointments.

What Dental Issues Can Veneers Correct?

Porcelain dental veneers have become incredibly popular due to their outstanding versatility and wide range of issues they can correct/conceal. Here are some of the more common dental problems you may consider veneers as a solution.

  • Misshapen Teeth: Having teeth that are uniform in shape and size plays a significant role in how others perceive your smile. Some may consider a mouth with misshapen or smaller/larger teeth unattractive. Veneers can cover these teeth, which differ in shape or size.
  • Gaps Between Teeth: Having a gap between two teeth can be a very noticeable dental issue. Because you are constantly worried about others noticing it, it can affect your self-esteem. If you have a minor gap between two teeth, veneers can conceal this gap. By making a veneer that is just slightly wider than your tooth, it can effectively close off the visible gap so that you can smile without worrying about what others may be thinking.
  • Chips/Cracks: If you have a tooth that has a small chip or crack or may have a texture issue, veneers can hide these easily.
  • Tooth Discoloration: While teeth whitening treatments can typically address tooth stains and discoloration, there are some instances where a tooth may be resistant to this treatment. In some cases, patients may not want to expose themselves to the whitening chemicals. In either case, veneers are perfect for concealing any stain or tooth discoloration which may be present.

Caring For Your Veneers

The porcelain used in crafting our veneers is a solid and durable material that will last years with proper care. One of the more common reasons a veneer will need to be replaced is due to a patient chewing on a hard object such as a pen or using their teeth to open a package, both of which could cause a veneer to crack or pop off. Bruxism (chronic teeth grinding) could be another danger to your veneers. If you suffer from bruxism, consider wearing a nightguard. Other than these, just care for them as you would your natural teeth. Follow a good oral hygiene regimen at home, and your veneers should last you for years.

Within just a couple of appointments, your smile can be the one you’ve always dreamed of. To learn more about porcelain veneers, please call Sequoyah Dental Arts at 865 973-9899.
