Who should consider cosmetic dentures?
Cosmetic dentures are slightly different from generic dentures. Generic dentures are made without evaluating the exact condition of the individual patient’s mouth. As a result, the dentures may turn out to be very conspicuous because they are not in the right proportion to the rest of the mouth.
From an aesthetics point, this is a poor situation because anyone can easily notice the dentures. In many such cases, the dentures are so obvious that they are the first thing to get noticed. Attention may not go on the positive aspects of the person’s personality, and may get diverted toward the awkward looking dentures.
Another big disadvantage of generic dentures is that they may not fit properly or stay firmly in their place. So the user is constantly faced with the discomfort of loose fitting or unstable dentures in their mouth. It may get embarrassing at times if the dentures fall off during a conversation or while eating.
Therefore, it is advisable for all those who prefer to wear dentures to opt for cosmetic dentures. These dentures are designed with more care and are customized to the individual patient’s oral condition as much as possible. The natural bite is taken into consideration, so there should be little or no change after dentures.
The other factors that are evaluated while custom designing these dentures include the height and width of the patient’s smile, the shape and size of the face, the color and the texture, and the position of the teeth. In the case of partial dentures, the position of the existing natural teeth is also taken into consideration.
A lot depends on the skill and experience of the orthodontist who is preparing the cosmetic dentures. The choice of superior quality materials for dentures and their appropriate fabrication and application can make all the difference to the patient’s personality.
