Dental implants are the gold standard for replacing missing teeth. These titanium posts act as artificial tooth roots, supporting crowns, bridges, or dentures for a stable, long-lasting smile. Unlike traditional dentures, implants prevent bone loss and offer superior comfort and function. If you’re in good health with sufficient jawbone density, you could be a great candidate for dental implants.

Process

Initial Consultation & Evaluation: Your dentist will assess your oral health, take X-rays, and determine if you have enough jawbone for implants. If you have bone loss, bone grafting may be recommended before implant placement.

Treatment Planning: A customized treatment plan is created based on your specific needs. This includes the number of implants needed, the type of restoration (crown, bridge, or denture), and any preparatory procedures.

Tooth Extraction (If Needed): Extractions make me necessary if you have a damaged or failing tooth in the implant site. Sometimes, an implant can be placed immediately after extraction.

Bone Grafting (If Required): If your jawbone isn’t strong enough to support an implant, a bone graft may be needed. This step can add several months to the process as the graft heals and integrates with your natural bone.

Implant Placement Surgery: A titanium implant post is surgically placed into your jawbone. This procedure is done under local anesthesia or sedation for your comfort. After placement, a healing cap may be placed over the implant.

Next Steps

Osseointegration (Healing & Bonding Phase): Over the next three to six months, the implant fuses with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. This creates a stable foundation for your new tooth.

Abutment Placement: Once healing is complete, a small connector piece (abutment) is attached to the implant. This will hold the final restoration in place. Some patients receive abutments at the same time as implant placement.

Final Restoration (Crown, Bridge, or Denture): A custom-made crown, bridge, or denture is attached to the abutment, completing your new tooth. Your dentist will ensure the restoration looks natural and fits comfortably.

Aftercare & Follow-Up: You’ll receive care instructions to help your implant heal properly. Regular dental visits and good oral hygiene will keep your implant strong and functional for years to come.

FAQ

  • Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

If you’re in good overall health, have healthy gums, and enough jawbone to support an implant, you’re likely a great candidate.

  • How do I take care of dental implants?

Just like natural teeth—brush, floss, and keep up with regular dental checkups to ensure your implants last a lifetime.

  • What happens if I don’t have enough bone for implants?

If your jawbone isn’t strong enough, bone grafting can rebuild the area to support an implant. This adds healing time but ensures long-term success.
