Root Canal Treatment in Knoxville, TN

A root canal is a procedure that removes infected or damaged pulp from inside a tooth. This treatment is essential when decay, injury, or infection reaches the nerve. The process involves cleaning the tooth’s canals, filling them to prevent future infection, and sealing the tooth. With modern techniques, root canals are no more painful than getting a filling. If you’re dealing with persistent tooth pain or sensitivity, this treatment can provide relief while preserving your natural tooth.

01.

Process

Diagnosis & X-Ray: If you have symptoms like persistent pain or sensitivity, your dentist will take an X-ray to check for infection in the tooth’s root.

Numbing the Area: Local anesthesia ensures you feel no pain during the procedure.

Removing the Infection: The dentist makes a small opening in the tooth and carefully removes the infected or damaged pulp inside. The canals are cleaned, disinfected, and shaped to prepare for filling.

02.

Next Steps

Filling the Canals: Once the tooth is cleaned out, it’s filled with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha to seal the space and prevent reinfection.

Sealing & Temporary Filling: A temporary filling is placed on top to protect the tooth while it heals. In some cases, a permanent filling or crown may be placed immediately.

Final Restoration: After a few weeks, your dentist will replace the temporary filling with a permanent one or a custom dental crown to restore the tooth’s strength and function.
